San Huberto’s half-brother hits the track

Aquired last year at the Arqana Breeze-Up Sale in France, Sardonian, a son of Showcasing, is ready to make his debut for connections in Australia this weekend.

His mare Sediciosa is well-known to OTI and connections through his half-brother San Huberto, a Group 2 winner in France and who only recently won the Listed Bagot Handicap at Flemington.

The gelding arrived in Australia in June last year and joined the stables of Matthew Williams at Warrnambool. Needing a bit more time to mature, the 3yo was brought along slowly and has stepped up his work over time. After three positive trials, Sardonian is set to kick off his racing career at Geelong on Saturday over 1300m.

Prior to his first race start Matthew William comments: “He finished off strongly in all of his trials and kept finding ground, which means he probably wants a bit further, but overall I’m pleased with him. We expected him to be a horse to probably have his first start over 1300-1400m.”

“He was a bit slow away in his last trial, but recovered quickly and settled fourth in the field and finished third in the trial. The heavy ground took a little getting used to for him, but he still finished off strongly and we’re happy to head to the races with him. The race experience will certainly help him come along and mature further.”

We wish all connections the best of luck for his first career start!
