Romancer will have his final hit-out before the NZ Derby when he tackles the Group 2 Avondale Guineas at Ellerslie tomorrow over 2100m. The race is set to jump at 1:23pm ADST (3:23pm NZ time). Romancer showed he was ready for the 2100M last start with a fast-finishing fifth in the Karaka Mile. He came from last in that race and went to the line alongside the Group 1 winning Sacred Elixir – who will start favourite for tomorrow’s race. Donna Logan was pleased with the horse’s performance and thinks he is well on target for the NZ Derby.
Romancer will likely drift back from the wide draw but there looks to be a decent amount of speed engaged and he will be hitting the line hard.
