Renew on track for the Adelaide Cup after brave win

Renew broke an 850 day drought with a gutsy barrier to box victory over 2500m at Morphetville on Saturday. Piloted by the promising Hong Kong apprentice, Matthew Poon, the 7YO gelding appreciated the drop in weight and showed he still has plenty to offer on the racetrack.

Renew was taken on up front by Mobaco who quickly dropped off as they entered the home straight, leaving our charge a sitting duck for those swooping late. To Renew’s credit he fought off all-comers to record a narrow, but decisive victory.

Already a winner over 3200M in the 2014 Sandown Cup, Renew could well return to the two-mile in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup to be run on March 13 and the extra 700M is only going to be an advantage.

Saturday’s strong win could well be the tonic this horse has needed to reinvigorate his career and we are excited about the month ahead.
