Popular Petruchio is Ready to Win

All stables have favourite horses, and there are none more liked than the Archie Alexander trained Petruchio. With an ounce of luck, the 6yo import will add to his impressive record with a win over 1600m on Wednesday at Sandown.

Purchased by OTI as a 2yo, Petruchio won a race as a 3yo in the UK before heading to Australia. Despite his talent, injury setbacks plagued the son of New Approach. In fact, Wednesday’s race will be only his 8th start since his arrival in 2018.

Petruchio’s popularity comes about as a result of his talent and resolve in overcoming his ailments. Many horses who incur ongoing injuries lose their willingness to race. However, Archie Alexander and his team have managed to maintain this horse’s endeavour and provide owners with wins in each of his short preparations.

Archie’s efforts have been supported by Sylvan Lodge where Petruchio has spent much of his time convalescing. As a second home, he’s received special treatment by the team to both keep him happy and sound.

Petruchio’s owners on both sides of the equator hope that Wednesday’s race will lay the foundation for him to step up to Saturday class this preparation. With his natural ability, he could well find himself competitive in stakes races in the early part of spring. There would be no more deserving horse and no owners more delighted.
