Perfumist set for exciting spring preparation

High-class mare Perfumist makes her eagerly awaited return to racing on Saturday, with her first-up assignment being the 1200m Benchmark 94 Petaluma Handicap at Rosehill for Bjorn Baker and Ashley Morgan.

Perfumist made quite the impression in her 3-year-old summer/autumn preparation, which included a 4-run winning streak across December and January. The outstanding preparation concluded when she finished 5th in the NZB Kiwi in March, a race sure to be a tremendous form reference for the upcoming spring.

Perfumist has readied herself for Saturday’s return by stepping out in two trials in July. She was most impressive in the latest, winning her trial by nine lengths and dominating a field of mostly top-quality stayers.

Perfumist wins her latest trial at Rosehill.

The aims for Perfumist this preparation centre around obtaining valuable black-type for her pedigree page, with a run in the G3 Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong in September considered a likely early target. Longer-term, should she prove herself of the required quality as a four-year-old, the $10m Golden Eagle in November has obvious appeal.

With the scent of spring approaching, what a great time to have Perfumist race ready. We are looking forward to Saturday’s return.
