OTI’s Geelong Cup Day

Wide gates were a feature of our Geelong Cup Day barrier draw results following the release of final fields for this Wednesday’s feature meeting. OTI is preparing for a busy day of racing with four runners on the day, including one in the Group 3 Cup itself.

Sous Les Nuages will kick off the day in Race 1, a BM70 over 2400m for trainer Matt Cumani and apprentice Matthew Chadwick, who will claim 2kg, which will bring the geldings weight down to 60.5kg. Coming back from an impressive win in a BM82 at Morphettville at the start of October, he should be very competitive in this event. Allocated barrier 5, his was our only draw in single figures.

Following in Race 2 over 1700m will be the Lindsey Smith trained gelding, Notes, who will be ridden by Jarrod Fry. He comes into this second up after an excuse last start. Notes finished his last prep off strongly with a win at Ballarat in March 2022, also with Jarrod Fry on board. He has drawn the outside gate in the initial field of 14 plus 1 emergency.

Race 4 will see the 4yo mare Indented Head, who is trained by Phillip Stokes and will be ridden by Daniel Moor on the day. After a few starts in higher BM races, the mare comes back to a BM64, which should see her very competitive if the track stays soft enough. Indented Head secured a win earlier this prep in a BM70 at Sandown, showing that she is very capable running a strong race. Indented Head has barrier 17 to contend with.

Finally the feature race of the day, the G3 Geelong Cup, which includes one of our horses, Attorney (Barrier 12). Attorney returns from a very positive run in the Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes, where he finished 7th beaten 3.25 lengths and ran the 2nd fastest last 600m and 200m of the race. The Pakenham Cup winner has shown in the past that if he puts his best foot forward, he can run a very impressive race. Trainer Matthew Smith is positive we will see another good run from the gelding.
