OTI’s Derby prospects

With two months to VRC Derby Day at Flemington on October 29, OTI Racing currently has three contenders set for the $2m race for 3yos, including a full brother to I’m Thunderstruck.

“We have three Derby hopes at this stage,” Terry Henderson reported.

“We have Big Story, who won well at Ballarat the other day. There’s Struck Twice, which is I’m Thunderstruck’s brother, and then there’s Cadazio, who had a little setback and missed a few days’ work but he’s back on track and is an exciting prospect”, said Henderson.

Big Story

The lightly raced son of What’s The Story was the stallion’s first winner when saluting at Ballarat earlier this month. We’ve still a great deal to learn about the ideal distance range for this young fellow, but he does show above average talent.

Big Story will be seen next at The Valley this coming Saturday in the 3yo Handicap over 1500m.

Big Story winning his Australian Debut in August, 2022.

Struck Twice

The full-brother to I’m Thunderstruck stuck on resolutely for 3rd on debut in July. After a short break he has returned to the stable and completed a second jumpout at Cranbourne this morning.

Struck Twice is ready to return to the races after his jumpouts, likely to be in Maiden company within two weeks.

Struck Twice running a good 3rd in his Debut at Pakenham in July, 2022.

Cadazio

The spruik on Cadazio prior to his debut at Geelong in July was well-founded, recording a dominant victory in his Maiden. As a result, he was quickly installed as one of the more favoured runners for the spring 3yo feature.

Kent Jnr describes Cadazio as being typical of the stallion’s progeny and drew similarities with their latest Derby winner.

“He’s similar to Jungle Magnate in that he showed that bit of speed which is so important, you can’t be too dour. He’s a very exciting horse,” Kent Jnr said.

“He is typical of the Tarzinos. He is big, strong, and impressive. He has big nostrils, is very sound and has a good brain.

Cadazio is expected to have his first start as a 3yo at Flemington on September 10 in the Listed Exford Plate over 1400m.

All three horses are under the care of Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior, who OTI has a close and successful relationship with.

We look forward to their progress and upcoming races.
