OTI Secures Promising Footstepsinthesand Filly

The breeze up sales always provide an exciting opportunity to watch two-year-olds display their untapped racing potential. It’s even more thrilling when one gallops down the track and catches your eye with their outstanding athletic abilities.

This was the case when astute bloodstock agent Hubie de Burgh identified the two-year-old Footstepsinthesand filly out of the Exceed and Excel mare, Miss Brazil at the Tattersalls Breeze Up sale in Ireland in July.

De Burgh had bookmarked the filly before the sale and was so impressed by her breeze up that he proposed that OTI purchase her in partnership with him.

OTI’s General Manager Shayne Driscoll was immediately attracted to her well-balanced action and saw her as having the perfect conformation as a sprinting or middle-distance type.

“When Hubie identified her to us, we instantly said yes,” Driscoll commented. “She’s a gorgeous chestnut filly with quality breeding and superb racing potential. It wasn’t a hard decision,” he added.

The filly’s bloodline is equally as impressive as her racing talent. Her female family is a consistent producer of Stakes horses, the most notable being full-brother Elaire Noire who has won two Listed races from four starts.

The filly will be trained by dual Olympic Gold medallist, Sir Mark Todd in Lambourne in the United Kingdom. Todd has previously trained winners of the New Zealand Oaks and Wellington Cup and has recently relocated to the UK where he has resumed his career as a horse trainer.
