OTI Racing | Weekend Preview | July 30, 2021

While this weekend’s activity is a little quieter, two most interesting horses will appear at Randwick and Moonee Valley. Both will have the chance to cement their credentials as serious spring contenders.

Saturday 31st July

Randwick

Current Track Rating: Soft

Dick Whittington

With only 4 career runs, including 2 wins in France, Dick Whittington takes his place for the first time in an Australian race. His recent trial was impressive and although this race is a little shorter than his ideal, he’ll be finishing strongly.

I’m Thunderstruck

The boom around the son of Shocking is now well documented. In a challenging race, hopefully he can justify the hype and confirm his credentials as a serious horse for the spring.

Race 5 3:10 pm | 1514m 3yo Hcp | T: Mick Price & Michael Kent (Jnr) | J: Ms Jamie Kah 60kg | Barrier 9 | Saddlecloth 1

Schwanensee

Following her good win 4 weeks ago, this mare was disappointing when stepped up to 3,000m last start. Back to 1,900m, she’ll find both the class of race and the distance more to her liking.

Race 7 12:32am AEST | 1900m Class 3 | T:  A. Watrigant | J: Fabrice Veron 58.5kg | Barrier 1 | Saddlecloth 4

Schwanensee wins at Castera-Verduzan, France.

Lorne

Locally bred, daughter of Dariyan steps out for her maiden race. In a well credentialed field, her trainer Mario Baratti thinks that she’ll improve significantly with race experience and develop into a quality race filly.

Race 3 10:33pm AEST |1600m 2yo Maiden | T: Mario Baratti | J: NA 56kg | Barrier NA

Galway (IRE)

Current Track Rating: Soft

Camphor

While consistent over the last 12 months, wins have been hard to come by for this daughter of Camelot. In a lesser quality race on the tricky Galway track, she may get her chance on Sunday. That being said, she is likely to be saved for a Group 3 at Cork next Saturday.

Race 6 1:50am Monday AEST| 2786m 4yo+ Conditions | T: Jessica Harrington | J: NA | Barrier 24 | Saddlecloth 16

Camphor wins the Ulster Oaks, Ireland.

We wish all of our connections the best of luck over the weekend!
