OTI Racing Weekend Preview | July 10, 2020

Another busy weekend across Australia & Ireland awaits OTI and our partners. Locally, runners are engaged at both Caulfield & Rosehill. Whilst meetings at the Curragh & Cork also attract attention.

Impressive last start winner Mirann (barrier 1) races over 2800m in the Ebor Trial Handicap at the Curragh (Race 8 – 4:45am AEST). The Johnny Murtagh trained stayer commenced his preparation in the best possible fashion at Gowran Park over 1900m. With further improvement, he is expected to run well in a very competitive race.

My Swashbuckler (barrier 9) caught the eye over the final 200m in his second Australian start. Racing at Rosehill on Saturday (Race 2 – 12:10pm), he will appreciate stepping out in distance to 2000m as he continues to improve.

The 5-year-old has pleased trainer Kris Lees, with his recent work suggesting to him that he will be right in the finish. Glen Boss retains the ride.

Never No More (barrier 8) races over 1400m in an Open Handicap at Caulfield off a two month freshen up (Race 4 – 1:35pm). The No Nay Never colt has shown good improvement in his recent work and two trials. Whilst a competitive showing is expected, he will derive benefit from the contest.

Trench Warfare (barrier 4) was narrowly denied over 1700m at Geelong last start in a run full of merit. Trainer Matt Cumani is looking forward to getting the 3-year-old colt out to 2000m for the first time, at what is just his fourth career start. Regular jockey Fred Kersley takes the ride (Race 6 – 2:55pm).

Joseph O’Brien plans to run Eaglemont over 2000m in a 3yo+ maiden at Cork on Sunday. The 3-year-old son of Camelot was defeated by Serpentine on debut last start. The form through that race at the Curragh looks incredibly strong with Serpentine winning the Epsom Derby at his following start.

On Tuesday, San Huberto, a last start winner of the G2 Victomtesse Vigier at Chantilly races again at the level. The 4-year-old son of Speightstown is set to take his place in the G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil at Longchamp.

A field of 10 remain after first acceptances have been taken. Trainer Fabrice Chappet will be hoping for a dry track, allowing San Huberto to utilise his powerful turn of foot.

Best of luck to all partners.
