In this edition of the Gazette, we have a chat with highly successful trainer Chris Waller. With 180 Group 1 victories, he’s best known for training champion mare Winx (along with OTI’s G1 winner Selino!).
We discuss the effective management structures in racing, assess our runners over the weekend, chat about an interesting article from Sheamus Mills in the TTR AusNZ and introduce the attractive 2yo colt Salvezza.

CHAT WITH CHRIS WALLER
“That’s very hard to decide. Many satisfying moments, that couldn’t really be split. One that is maybe a little different to most is my first Group 1 winner, Triple Honour, in 2008, because it gave me the confidence to know that I could perform on the big stage and had my horses right for the bigger races. Whilst there’s been bigger wins, this one was the most important.”

EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT STRUCTURES
“For nearly a decade, Racing Australia has been in limbo. Meaningful decisions on vital matters – such as the pattern system (race grading), the rules of racing, welfare standards (including whip use), and more – have been impossible. Without the ability to make and enforce critical standards, the industry remains rudderless.”
