Murwillumbah Cup to Big Dance

We look to Friday and hope that Cepheus, already qualified for the Big Dance on Melbourne Cup day, may soon be joined in the nominations by Eaglemont or Never No More. Both will be given their chance to qualify for the $3m race at Randwick by winning or running 2nd in the Murwillumbah Cup on Friday.

Eaglemont, who won in good style two starts back at Rosehill, will be ridden by Ben Thompson at 55.5kg. The 7yo gelding has had six starts this preparation, including the win at Rosehill and two second placings.

Even though his last start performance wasn’t as sharp as we would have liked, trainer Matt Dunn thinks the advantage of running at his home track on Friday is a good opportunity for Eaglemont, especially with the chance of qualifying for the Big Dance.

“He hasn’t given me any sign that he’s done so I’m happy to run him this Friday and use the advantage of running him on his home track. Hopefully we see him back with his winning form from two starts ago.” says Dunn.

Stable companion Never No More will also take his place in the race, carrying 59.5kg with Matthew McGuren booked to ride. After two improving runs this campaign, the 8yo completed a barrier trial last week in preparation for his run in Friday’s Cup race.

“He trialled well, it was exactly what we were looking for in preparation to his race on Friday. He pulled up well and is in great shape. Never No More ran well in his last race and has taken good improvement from it so he’s on target for this race.”, says trainer Matt Dunn to owners after the trial.

Already a Listed winner and Group placed, we hope to see the gelding put his best foot forward on Friday.

Best of luck to both owner groups for Friday’s race!
