OTI’s Miss Chang’e is a 2yo filly purchased with dreams of Oaks and Cups and is Super Vobis nominated. She has a lovely action at the walk and canter with a trainable attitude and beautiful nature.
By Puissance de Lune (meaning power of the moon) and out of Reveal the Goddess (by Zabeel), she has now been named Miss Chang’e (pronounced Miss Chun-g-err).
Chang’e is the Chinese for Goddess of the Moon and is known in Chinese folk lore as a woman who stole immortality. Her husband discovered what she had done and as a result, she was exiled. Chang’e then retreated to live on the moon until the end of her days.
Each year on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, Chinese people celebrate the memory of Chang’e with a “Mid-Autumn Festival” (also called Zhongqiu Jie). With the full moon shining, “moon cakes” are eaten and offered as gifts to friends and neighbours. Many go outside to view the supposed outline of a toad on the surface of the moon, for this creature, according to the Chinese legend is now Chang’e.
Puissance de Lune, Miss Chang’e’s sire, stormed into prominence with a dominant five-length victory in the 2012 Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Group 1 placed from 1400m to 2000m, he proved himself to be a versatile, top-class galloper.
The filly’s dam Reveal the Goddess (Zabeel) was sold as a yearling for $320,000 and is a daughter of Group 1 Sydney Cup winner Honor Babe. Reveal the Goddess went on to win over 2400m, making this filly a promising staying type.
Archie Alexander will train Miss Chang’e from his Ballarat base. Currently sitting 15th on the Victorian Trainers Premiership he is enjoying great success with OTI.
