There will be a touch of deja vu when Matt Dunn and Nash Rawiller present Sea King in the Christmas Cup at Randwick this Saturday. By Sea the Stars, as Cepheus was, this 6yo gelding will be having his first start for trainer and jockey.
A winner of the Bendigo Cup in October when trained by Harry Eustace, Sea King was formally trained by Sir Mark Prescott in Newmarket. Sea King finished well back in the Melbourne Cup when conservatively ridden at the rear of the field.
OTI acquired the horse in August with the dual intention of replacing Cepheus with Matt Dunn and to act as a galloping partner for Docklands. Since arriving with Matt, the gelding has thrived and carries good residual fitness from his time with Harry. He showed great sharpness in his ‘tick over’ trial at Gold Coast last week and looks well-placed in Saturday’s race from barrier 3.
Sea King trials well at the Gold Coast (OTI silks).
A win on Saturday could bring a tear to the eye of trainer and owners given the link between the grand galloper, Cepheus, and the ‘new kid on the block’, Sea King.
