The Lord Conquers Ballarat

Lord Fandango produced a stellar performance to win a BM78 Handicap over 2000M at Ballarat on Sunday. Not only was it a great result for OTI’s partners but also the UK-based, Anglo Australian Racing, who retained a share in this entire when he came to Australia.

Expertly piloted by Jordan Childs, Lord Fandango settled outside the leader before taking over on the home bend. The 4YO showed his rivals a clean pair of heels at the top of the straight, putting the race beyond doubt in the twinkling of an eye to record a soft victory.

Trained by Archie Alexander, this was only Lord Fandango’s second start in Australia and the 2000M was certainly seen as below his ideal trip.  Alexander is winning 23.8% of the time in 2017 and continues to do a tremendous job with OTI’s imports.

The win was a shock to punters who allowed the 4YO to jump at 70/1. However, Alexander had been more positive in the pre-race suggesting he’d “come on in fitness” for his first up fifth and would certainly improve.

Heading into Sunday’s race the thought was Lord Fandango would be immediately spelled. The emphatic has prompted a rethink and a race like the Warrnambool Cup could be on the radar. OTI extends its congratulations to the partners in Lord Fandango and we certainly hope it’s the first of many wins with Anglo Australian Racing.
