Le Juge Defends Crown in Group 3 Chairman’s Handicap

The consistency of Le Juge and patience of his connections was duly rewarded with Group success at Doomben on Saturday.

Purchased by Coolmore for €850,000 out of an Arqana Yearling Sale in August 2014, Le Juge was originally bought as a stallion prospect. He was acquired by OTI from Coolmore in 2017 and continued to race under Andre Fabre in Chantilly.

After relocating to Australia in late 2017, he arrived into the care of Chris Waller. Initially taking some time to acclimatise, his breakthrough win came at Doomben in December 2018.

On the back of this performance, Le Juge went on to win 6 races and placed on 3 other occasions from his next 9 starts in Queensland.

A winner of last year’s G3 Chairman’s Handicap (2000m), the 7-year-old was able to successfully defend his title in what was his 16th start of a preparation that began in September 2019. Racing well throughout, Saturday showcased Le Juge’s ability to perform at Group level.

Chris Waller will now assess what the short-term future looks like for Le Juge. Showing few signs of slowing down, we look forward to seeing him in the winners stall again soon.
