Late entries for Sandown Guineas

Matt Cumani is one of five trainers to make a late attempt at Saturday’s Sandown Guineas after only eight original entries were received for the Group 2 race on Monday.

Cumani’s three-year-old Furioso will take his place in the $250,000 race just a month after his debut, with the Ballarat trainer attracted to the race after viewing the original nominations.

“Apart from one or two of them, they were all rated in the 60s and he was coming off a pretty good maiden win over the trip (1600m) so we thought it was worth having a shot at,” Cumani said.

“He’s come on nicely from his Cranbourne maiden win and while I think he might be looking for 2000 metres, will give it a go.”
