To own a horse with dual Melbourne Cup-winning trainer Joseph O’Brien is a dream of many racing enthusiasts, let alone to race a colt with him as regally bred as Rollet.
The 2yo, by leading sire Kingman, is on the brink of debut for the stable and limited opportunities for wholesale clients remain available.
Rollet, who began his education with O’Brien in late 2019 has been progressing well and steadily working towards a debut in the navy and gold silks.
O’Brien has taken a patient approach to the colt’s education but has been consistently pleased with his developments.
“We are very happy with him so far. He is a grand, straightforward colt with a good attitude. We expect him to be at his best going 1400m-1600m in his three-year-old season and beyond,” O’Brien commented.
Bred by Terry Henderson and his French breeding partners, Rollet caught Joseph O’Brien’s eye at the 2019 Deauville Yearling sales. After the colt was initially passed in, Terry approached Joseph, knowing he had inspected him, and arranged for the horse to be trained by him for OTI.
With a first-class pedigree, OTI believed Rollet was a perfect fit for Joseph O’Brien’s Kilkenny stables.
Rollet is impeccably bred, by leading European sire Kingman. Standing at £150,000 ($A285,000) in 2020, Kingman has produced multiple Group 1 winners Persian King and Palace Pier, as well as a plethora of Group 2 and Group 3 winners.
On his dam’s side, Rollet is out of Foreign Legionary, a daughter of Galileo and a half-sister to Irish Champion and five-time Group 1 winner Alexander Goldrun. Rollet is also a half-brother to OTI-owned and Listed winner Mantastic.
OTI is looking forward to racing the colt with Joseph O’Brien, who has swiftly risen to the top of the world training ranks after winning his second Melbourne Cup last week. OTI and Joseph O’Brien have an excellent relationship, highlighted by 2019 Lexus Stakes winner Downdraft.
