King Pedro Looking to Claim His Next Crown

King Pedro finally got the result his consistent form deserved last start, producing a dominant victory in the Ranvet Stayers Cup (2400m) at Rosehill and ending a frustrating run of near misses. The four-year-old had finished runner-up in four of his previous five starts, but there was no hard-luck story on this occasion!

The New Zealand import showed his class, charging through a gap under Kerrin McEvoy, drawing clear for an impressive three-length win. The victory continued the upward trajectory of the promising stayer, who now heads to Thursday’s Grafton Cup (2350m) seeking Listed success.

He pulled up very well from that run and has continued to progress nicely. Kerrin, who will partner him once again, gave him his final piece of work on Saturday morning over a mile. Trainer Tom Charlton is very happy with how he has trained on, saying “He’s very fit and it was just a case of ticking him over. I’m very pleased with him. He’s bright and well and I can’t knock him.”

He looks well placed drawing 10 of 14 in Thursday’s competitive feature, and we look forward to seeing another strong showing up in class!
