High rating Holstein joins OTI

We are pleased to announce a 50 percent acquisition of impressive debut winner Holstein after trainer Matthew Dunn sought to keep the exciting son of Snitzel in Australia.

Holstein’s toughness and willingness to win was on display when stepping out for the first time at Warwick Farm on March 31. Drawn wide in barrier 11, he was forced to work hard early but exhibited his class and ability in victory.

“We had him pencilled in as a horse who would make a nice three-year-old from the time he was broken in, and he has certainly surpassed all expectations,” Dunn said.

“He will continue to improve with time, and the fact he was able to secure a win as early as he did is a real positive moving forward because he’s a lovely horse.”

Despite a host of international offers, Matthew was keen to retain the gelding and approached OTI as his first port of call.

Over recent years, we have enjoyed an excellent relationship with the Dunn stable, and we are delighted to continue our association.

The opportunity to partner with Matthew and current connections on a quality proven Australian-bred two-year-old is most exciting. We look forward to a prosperous career targeted towards Australia’s premium three-year-old classics in the short term.

To accompany his already demonstrated ability on the track, Holstein is out of regally bred Listed-placed mare, Affairoftheheart making him a half-brother to this year’s Group 1 New Zealand Derby winner Rocket Spade.

Terry Henderson said. “Holstein is a strong medium-framed individual who possesses a deep girth and most importantly has all the right attributes that we seek in our acquisitions.”

“He is a beautifully balanced type who walks fluently and has an excellent temperament. These characteristics will see him prove competitive at the highest level.”
