Greyazz Curbs the Second Place Curse

Ending OTI’s second placing streak was none other than debut starter Greyazz. Winning his first career start at Mornington in fine style on Friday, the 3yo grey colt showed the field just how it’s done. The Kiwi bred took everything in his stride running home in 35.26 seconds for the final 600m.

By European shuttling stallion Dalghar, Greyazz was sourced in New Zealand and travelled over the ditch to join the Archie Alexander team in Ballarat after being broken in. A slow start for the horse early in his career, he has hit his straps and looks to be a horse of the future given his dominating win. Showing such professionalism in his first race start, Archie was extremely pleased with the horse and is looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Archie Alexander continued his winning form over the weekend, with Miss Carboni also taking out her maiden status in just her second start. The chestnut Helmet filly proved she was all class hitting the front with 200m to go and maintaining her lead to cross the line in first place. The winning photo grin says it all as she passed the post under a hold for jockey Neil Farley.

To the feature race meeting of the weekend in that of the Pakenham Cup, Angelic Spirit dominated yet again, leading from start to finish in the 1400m fillies and mares race. Trainer Trent Busuttin was very pleased with how the race panned out, making it a double for the afternoon for front-running jockey Linda Meech. Giving her a comfortable ride, Angelic Spirit relaxed beautifully in the run finding a little extra to skip away from the rest of the field coming into the straight. With no one able to make up the ground, she rolled over the line with ease, making it two wins for her connections this preparation.

Well done to each horse’s connections, we look forward to seeing them step out again into the winner’s circle in the not too distant future!
