Gregorian Chant in tune at Bendigo

On Sunday, Gregorian Chant broke her maiden in just her second start winning by a length at Bendigo.

This two-year-old filly’s trainer, Mitch Freedman was confident she could measure up against the older horses on the day. Her debut run at Moonee Valley two weeks ago indicated she would relish the step up in distance to 1400m and she did not disappoint. She jumped well and settled in 5th position. Michael Dee allowed her to relax during the middle stages, before making his move at the start of the home straight. She then extended and took the lead with about 150m to go and cruised to record a lovely maiden win.

She is still quite immature and did a few things wrong in the run, but her jockey, Michael Dee was full of compliments and believes she’ll only improve with time. Her breeding and performances to date indicate she has the has the ability to stay. The filly will now spell for just the 3 weeks, before beginning a spring campaign aimed towards the VRC Oaks.
