Gailo Chop – Middle-Distance Horse of the Year?

To encapsulate what was a terrific season of racing in 2017/18, the Australian Racehorse of the Year awards will be held in Melbourne tonight.

OTI Racing and co-owners will be proudly represented by Gailo Chop, one of 5 nominations for the title of Champion Middle Distance horse. Gailo Chop had a remarkable season, managing Group 1 wins in both major carnivals.  In the spring, he took out the Caulfield Stakes while in the autumn, it was the Ranvet Stakes. He also managed to string together wins at Listed, Group 3 and Group 2 level.  Runner-up finishes as well in the Group 1 Australia Cup and Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

In most years, these are the statistics of a category winner.  In most years, he would not come up against Winx.

As they say in the classics, “it’s just an honour to be nominated”.
