Fresh from Ireland, Feathertop will have her first Australian run at Ipswich on Wednesday. The 5yo mare will ultimately be looking for more ground than 1300m distance of this race, but it serves to prepare her for longer ones to follow.
Matt Dunn has been most impressed with Feathertop since she arrived from Jessie Harrington’s stable. Given time to acclimatize, she has trialled well. Her first preparation here should take her well into the spring.
Feathertop finished 3rd in her second trial at Murwillumbah in July.
A winner over 2000m for Harrington in Ireland, the mare also placed twice in her 5 race starts there. Being by Coolmore sire, Australia and out of the Fastnet Rock mare Mt of Beatitudes, the mare should be at her best around 2000m.
OTI also has Feathertop’s 2yo half-brother (by New Bay) in training with Fabrice Chappet in France. He is expected to have his first race start within the next month.
