Fabre seeking a 13th Prix Chaudenay with Sevenna’s Knight

Andre Fabre has for many years been considered the world’s best trainer. He has been the Champion Trainer in France on 30 occasions, including 21 straight years from 1987 to 2007 and has won the world’s most prestigious race, the Group 1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, on 8 occasions.

‘The Arc’ as it is known, will be run again on Sunday and Fabre could again be in the thick of the action, with his talented mare Place du Carrousel remaining in the entries. However, the Saturday meeting of the carnival will also hold great interest for followers of OTI, with Fabre’s charge Sevenna’s Knight set to run in the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay over 3000m – a race Fabre has won 12 times.

Sevenna’s Knight quickly graduated to black-type racing following his purchase by OTI in July. An impressive winner of the Listed Michel Houyvet over 2800m was followed by an unlucky 4th in the Group 3 Gerard de Geoffre four weeks ago. The Chaudenay was his campaign target the whole way through, and he is expected to present at Longchamp on Saturday in excellent condition.

Sevenna’s Knight wins the Listed Michel Houyvet.

In Saturday’s race, he will meet familiar faces in Double Major, Gallerist, Kahraman, Shembala and Deschingi’s King – all horses he has opposed within the two starts above. Rubis Vendome and Dermot Weld’s Harbour Wind are certainly the pick of the others.

Just nine horses in total remain in the running for the Prix Chaudenay and Sevenna’s Knight has his share of claims on the winning prize. A 13th race success for Fabre would be well celebrated.
