Exciting debutant amongst multiple runners at Hamilton

An exciting OTI debutant lines up at the Hamilton races this Tuesday for connections. 3yo Montecristo will take his place in the first race on the day over 1200m in the 3yo Maiden.

Recently imported from New Zealand, Montecristo joined his new trainer Matthew Williams in Warrnambool in late October.

“I’m very pleased with him, he settled in well, has a good attitude and does everything you ask of him. He’s a nice horse to have around the stable and has been showing some nice talent in his work and trials, which is what we saw from him back in New Zealand as well.”, commented Williams.

Montecristo wins his second trial at Penshurst (yellow silks, red cap)

“Tuesday’s race at Hamilton should suit him and it will be a good test for him. Dean Yendall will be positive from the gate and hopefully we can get into a good spot and finish off strong. I think he’s got a good top three chance.”

Montecristo had two trials leading up to his Australian debut, winning his last trial at Penshurst convincingly. After scratchings, the race has downsized to six runners from the original thirteen. See the full field and all race details here.

Also potentially running on the day will be Upwoods in the 1600m Maiden for trainers Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr.

The 4yo gelding by Redwood had a very positive first preparation with the stable, placing in three of his four starts, unlucky to not score a win. Since then, Upwoods has had a spell and now returns for his second preparation based out of the Warrnambool arm of Price Kent Racing’s operation.

“It’s a nice kick-off point for him over the mile. We obviously plan to get him out in distance during this preparation, but the 1600m suit well for his first start back. He had three trials leading into his return, but will continue to improve with racing and hopefully a win isn’t too far away.”, said racing manager Tom Sheahan from the Price/Kent stable.

Best of luck to all connections of our runners at Hamilton.
