Dyerville set for Ballarat debut

Dyerville will have his race debut tomorrow in Ballarat, Race 2 over 1200m. With trial experience in New Zealand and Australia, the gelding is set to start his racing career.

The 3 year-old gelding is a son of Redwood (GB), well known to OTI as the sire of Romancer, Night’s Watch and others. He is out of the Savabeel mare Scarlet Tiger, who is a half-sister to Tehama (NZ).

Dyerville came to OTI’s attention after an impressive jump-out in New Zealand, leading throughout and finishing approximately 4 lengths in front. He broke 60 seconds over 1000m, being ridden with only light pressure and easing up in the last furlong. Arriving to Matthew Williams in Australia at the start of this year, he has been brought along slowly, culminating in two recent trials. Despite still learning and racing greenly, he was able to win his second trial in Camperdown, which gives us great confidence in his future.

Trainer Matthew Williams says “I am really happy with how he’s done since coming to Australia, his condition and coat are spot on. He’s quite a genuine horse and he can certainly be running into the money.”

The Gelding is set to run over 1200m first up with future aspirations towards 1400-1600m. Alana Kelly has been riding him in his trials and will take the ride on him from barrier 6. We hope he enjoys a positive first race day experience and it wouldn’t be a surprise at all to see him right in the finish.
