Dissident filly to join Lindsey Smith stables

OTI is looking to continue their long history of success with New Zealand bred fillies with newly acquired three-year-old, Andress.

The filly, by Dissident, out of Fastnet Rock mare, Miralago will join the stable of Group 1 winning trainer, Lindsey Smith, later this month.

OTI’s General Manager Shayne Driscoll commented that Andress embodies everything OTI looks for in a young filly.

“She’s got an excellent turn of foot, beautifully balanced galloping action, a strong body and a classy pedigree,” he commented.

The filly was recommended to OTI by renowned New Zealand bloodstock agent Phill Cataldo, and, as with many of Cataldo’s referrals, the OTI team were quick to secure her.

Andress caught the eye of Cataldo after an excellent trial at Avondale, New Zealand where she came from the rear of the field to finish 2nd. The filly powered home and hit the line strongly, demonstrating her superior galloping abilities and sustained speed.

“She immediately impressed us with her action. To watch her accelerate and hit the line like that in her first outing was very promising,” Driscoll commented.

“Once we did our background and confirmed her high-quality bloodlines, we swiftly secured her.”

Dissident has proved himself as a quality sire of fillies, with Stakes winners Yes Baby Yes, Foxborough and Aidensfield bolstering his credentials recently.

On Andress’s dam’s side, Miralago was a winner. Additionally, her dam’s dam, Gretchen, was a multiple winner and finished second in the G1 South Australian Oaks.

The filly will arrive to Australia in mid-November where she’ll settle into Lindsey Smith’s Warrnambool stables and commence her campaign immediately. Her first significant targets will be 3yo Stakes races in autumn 2021.
