A Derby prospect by an emerging Group 1 Winning Sire

New Zealand is a renowned breeding ground for Derby winners. OTI is delighted to have a ready-to-run 2YO son by the exciting sire of the Group 1 winning He’s Our Rokki, Roc De Cambes.

The gelding was purchased from the 2016 NZ Ready To Race sales after an impressive breeze-up. He covered the 200M dash in a slick 11.4 secs, displaying raw talent and strength.

OTI is excited to race this gelding with Murray Baker and his training partner, Andrew Forsman. Baker is one of New Zealand’s leading trainers and is well-known for his work with stayers having won Cups and Derbies on both sides of the Tasman.

OTI has enjoyed great success in working with Murray Baker in the past. In 2007, OTI purchased the then 2YO Kibbutz from Baker on the back of a Stakes placing before he went on to win the Victoria Derby.

The Roc De Cambes gelding returned to full work in mid-February, immediately impressed the training duo. Forsman affirmed “this gelding is a lovely horse and possesses the breeding, temperament and movement we’d expect to see in a quality middle-distance/staying type”.

His athletic, balanced walk and long-striding galloping action are evident in his footage:

Earmarked as an ideal Derby type for the 2017/18 season, the 2YO is likely to head to the races in May. Should he immediately impress, a trip to Melbourne for the Spring Carnival is on the cards. The gelding will undoubtedly improve into his autumn 3YO season and beyond and is an exciting prospect for OTI’s partners.
