Darci’s Debut, our Latest Trial-Winning Acquisition

When it comes to sourcing quality racehorses, New Zealand has been a happy hunting ground for OTI. This has been highlighted most recently by the feats of I’m Thunderstruck (G1 Toorak Handicap & Golden Eagle winner) and Spirit of Gaylard, who won a Listed event at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day.

Like the majority of our New Zealand-based purchases, Phill Cataldo identified our latest acquisition, Darci’s Debut at the trials. Impressed by her scope and staying credentials, we had no hesitation in moving quickly to secure her. The form out of the filly’s Foxton trial win (shown below) has already been franked, with Morus, who finished 2nd in the trial, winning impressively on debut at Awapuni last Saturday.

Darci’s Debut (Darci Brahma x Stepping Out ’18) winning her Foxton trial on October 19.

Given his proven skills in handling and developing these types of fillies, Symon Wilde will train Darci’s Debut. His skills have recently been highlighted by the spring success of Tralee Rose and Sirileo Miss. Symon’s growing team has access to an array of facilities to get the best out of their horses.

Darci’s Debut arrives in Australia in mid-November ready for a full preparation. As a maiden, she’s well-poised to quickly make her mark at the races. We see her as an ideal candidate to contest staying 3yo stakes races in the autumn, with the Group 1 Australasian Oaks for fillies a likely target.
