Classy mare Toregene kicks off her campaign

Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final winner Toregene is ready to return to the races on Saturday after three impressive trial performances.

“We were planning on giving her a quiet trial, but she was quite keen to get on with it. We finished 2nd under a hold, she’s going really well.” said Yendall after her first trial.

The 5yo won her third trial easily by 4 lengths with Jarrod Fry on board a few weeks later.
“She’s come along super from her first trial and is a little more settled this time. She’s very sound and clean in the wind, her coat still has some improvement to come, but we’re on the right track with her.” said Williams in a post-trial update.

Matt also added in his pre-racer report that “She looks terrific in her weight and condition leading into her first start back. We have her quite forward, but she still has some improvement to come in the coat. Johnny is booked to ride, he’s a strong experienced rider, which is what she needs. I’d expect her to run well, but think she has more improvement to come over a bit more distance.”

Toregene wins the Country Final Series at Flemington on Oaks Day in 2022

Toregene will start her campaign in the Group 2 Let’s Elope Stakes at Flemington this Saturday over 1400m from barrier 5. See the full field and all race details here.

As a winner on Oaks Day last spring in the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final, and subsequently placed twice in Group 3 company, we look forward to an exciting spring with black-type mares races as her target.

Best of luck to all involved for Saturday!
