Busy night at Longchamp

It’s no surprise to see multiple OTI runners on a Wednesday midweek meeting at Sandown, but having three runners at Longchamp is something more of a rarity, particularly when it includes a Group 3 runner. Such is the case this Thursday night (Friday morning AEST) at Longchamp’s evening meeting.

Kicking off the action will be last start winner Kloster, who delivered a pleasing performance first up at Niort for trainer Edouard Monfort and connections. The 6yo gelding has been a consistent racehorse throughout, winning three times and placing on 6 other occasions in his 15-start career.

Kloster wins at Niort (FR) on May 21, 2023

He is accepted for the 1400m Class 3 Handicap with Stephane Pasquier booked to ride at 57.5kg. See the full field and all race details here.

The following race, the Group 3 Prix de la Porte Maillot, will feature our grey filly Tigrais. A Group 3 winner as a 2yo, she is coming into this race second-up. She put in an acceptable effort on return as a 3yo in a Group 2 at Chantilly, with trainer Christopher Head mentioning post-race: “She was quite fresh and I think she probably needed the run.”

A return to Longchamp, the scene of her Group 3 success, gives connections hope she can repeat her winning performance in a quality field. Under the conditions of the race, she has a 4kg weight advantage on the remaider of the field.

Late on the card, we see 4yo mare Lorne step out for the first time this season. She is a staying mare who appreciates longer journies, so it’s no surprise that she will kick off her campaign at 2400m. Trainer Mario Baratti says: “I’ve been very pleased with her last gallop and she’s come along super so I’m happy to head to the races with her. It’s a race for amateur riders, therefore the weights are a little higher, but I’m hopeful we can see a positive first run from her.”

Watch out for Lorne’s goat at the races, as she never leaves her side!

Best of luck to all connections.
