Blue Diamond Prelude debut for Loafer

2yo filly Loafer gives owners an exciting kick-off to her career as she takes her place in Saturday’s Blue Diamond Prelude for Fillies.

Loafer is the full-sister to talented 3yo filly Vivy Air, who is also trained by Archie Alexander. Already a multiple Group 2 place-getter, Vivy Air was unlucky not to score better in her first Group 1 attempt in the Thousand Guineas last spring.

“The 2yo has a lot of similarities to Vivy Air, but I think she might even be a much stronger, more compact type than Vivy Air. She’s got a lot of muscle behind her and her last piece of work was very good. She galloped together with her sister and they went super. Loafer is doing everything right, they quickened well and finished off strong. She’s in good order for her debut on Saturday.”, said Archie Alexander to owners.

Loafer will be ridden by Declan Bates, who also rode her in her final gallop. She will run over 1100m and jumps from barrier 1 in a field of 16. See the full field and all race details here.

While Vivy Air and Loafer race for connections under trainer Archie Alexander, their younger full-sister has been entered for the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in Melbourne in early March. Click here to see her page.

Other runners on Saturday include Mark Twain, who will race in New Zealand in the BM75 over 2100m as he works towards the Avondale Cup into the New Zealand Cup. Also stepping out on the day are 5yo mare Principessa at Rosehill, Auriel at Yarra Valley and additionally we have multiple runners at Doomben.

Best of luck to all connections on the weekend!
