A recent addition to the OTI stable is Chirography, who we acted quickly to secure following a very positive trial at Te Awamutu in late May. The decision to buy was twofold:
- she appears to have the talent to be successful on the track in her own right, and
- as a full sister to the undefeated The Creator (who is yet to be seen in OTI colours for Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr), she may have the benefit of The Creator adding to her future broodmare value with superior racetrack performance
At Te Awamatu, having her first and only trial in unsuitable heavy conditions, Chirography was brave to the line a half-length behind a Capitalist colt. The track was deteriorating as the meeting went on, and so her effort to record an above standard heat time over 850m on the day was full of merit. While she handled the conditions, she is renowned for being better on top of the ground. This bodes well for her future in Australia.
While The Creator has not yet been seen on Australia shores, he has made quite the impression on connections and is thought to be Stakes level. We expect to see him step out at the trials for the first time in Australia later this month, and to commence a racing career for us in July.
Chirography and The Creator are by Wrote, best known in Australia for the Group 3 winner Wrote To Arataki, trained by Matt Williams. The Williams team too, understandably, was keen to be involved in Chirography, with Matt of the belief that she has similar physical characteristics to Wrote To Arataki.
Arriving in Australia earlier this week, Chirography will commence work in July with a spring 3yo campaign in mind. She is a most attractive filly and one we hold high hopes for in her future.
