Arqana Acquisition – Alashar

Last weekend saw one of the biggest racing events in Europe, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Paris-Longchamp, France. In addition to an action-filled weekend on the track, ‘The Arc Sale’ on Saturday night also provided an exciting time off the track with plenty of Group winners in the sale.

With 3yo colt Sevenna’s Knight carrying the gold and navy colours in the Group 2 Prix Chaudenay on Saturday for connections, OTI’s Terry Henderson was present and active at both the races and sales that day.

First coming to the attention of Terry Henderson and Gus Boyd in May, 3yo colt Alashar was immediately of interest to OTI in this sale. We had followed the colt through his 3yo season and he presented as a most attractive type for Australia.

“Alashar is a beautifully bred Lope de Vega colt who has already displayed superior talent in his races. Suited for firm ground and with a good turn of foot, he is expected to excel under the direct of Gai and Adrian.”, says Henderson after acquiring the colt.

Alashar has had 9 starts for 2 wins and 3 seconds. Included in the seconds was a Listed race in June at Longchamp over 2000m behind Horizon Dore, a now five-time stakes winner rated 118. At a previous race on the synthetic at Chantilly over 1900m, he flew from back in the field to win in excellent style.

Given his proven ability, conformation, breeding and a superior turn of foot we were delighted to acquire him in partnership with the Waterhouse/Bott stable, who also had their eyes on him. Watch his parade here.

The 3yo chestnut comes from a black-type family, his dam a four-time stakes winner herself. With the ability we believe he has, we should see him competing in premium races by next spring.
