A Unique Proposition

Obsessing, a 8 year-old gelding by Tin Horse, comes with a unique story that you don’t hear every day.

Originally purchased over two years ago, Obsessing (then known as Obsession) was the winner of his last three races. Two of them over hurdles and one on the flat, he’d shown just how versatile and competitive he was. He had won his last race by an impressive 12 lengths.

The gelding joined Willie Mullins in Ireland having been purchased by OTI as a dual-purpose proposition, but unfortunately suffered a tendon injury shortly thereafter. After a break to allow nature to commence his recovery, he was moved to Australia and into the care of Matt Williams and Dr Andrew Cust for a tendon rehabilitation program more in line to that with which we are now accumstomed.

Now fully recovered and in full training with the Maher/Eustace stable in Ballarat, he is showing the ability that initially attracted us to him. He trialled over 1000m at Stawell on September 13 and pleased both David Eustace and jockey Linda Meech. After a second trial at Ararat later in September, he will now commence his Australian race career first up over 1600m at Ballarat on Sunday.

Though he only had 12 career starts, as an 8yo some might think his age could hinder him from being competitive enough on the flat. However, for jumps racing, it is an acceptable age to excel should the talent remain present.

Both Ciaron and David have been most impressed with Obsessing. He’s a horse with a great temperament, great athleticism, superior jumping ability and is capable of running on all surfaces.

We hope that Sunday’s return is a positive continuation of a truly unique story.
