A strong hand held this Wednesday

We look at Warwick Farm in New South Wales and Mornington in Victoria for our three midweek runners.

Last start winner Step Aside will kick off our runners for the day in Race 5, a BM72 over 1400m at Warwick Farm for trainer Chris Waller and jockey James McDonald. The son of Redwood has had four career starts for one win and three seconds and looks to be a very promising racehorse for the future.

“He has come through his maiden win without any issues; he had a gallop this morning over 1000m where he finished off very well, and his rider gave us a good report. He will be nominated to race next Wednesday at Warwick Farm over 1400m. I hope we can run him at Warwick Farm providing he draws well”, said Waller in a recent update to owners.

Step Aside wins at Kembla Grange in his last start in May, 2023.

While not yet decided on where the 3yo will head after his second up start on Wednesday, a trip to Melbourne is not off the cards for him. We look forward to his run and hope he can repeat his winning performance from last start. The Waller/McDonald combination certainly gives him every chance.

Our second starter will be Aesop, who steps out in Race 6 at Mornington for trainer Phillip Stokes and connections. The 6yo comes into the race second up and stepping out to 2000m. During his last preparation, Aesop made his winning move second up over 1800m at Sandown, but has proven to be most competitive over the 2000m distance.

Trainer Phillip Stokes has been happy with him in the lead up to his run and his work has been positive. Apprentice Gary Lo is booked to ride and will claim 2kg off the top weight of 61kg that he was allocated. Wednesday’s race could certainly present to be a very good chance for the gelding to return to the winners stall. Fingers crossed!

Lastly, Miss Subtly, who will take on the field in Race 7 at Mornington with New Zealand 3kg claimer Wiremu Pinn booked to ride. The mare has been a touch disappointing since breaking her Maiden at Bendigo over 1100m first up for the preparation – down in weight (additionally so following the claim for Pinn) and on a track that can quite often prove leaderish, we hope she can put her best hoof forward.

Wednesday’s race will have a field of 15, with Miss Subtly jumping from barrier 2, carrying 54kg after the claim. See the full field and all race details here.

Best of luck to all involved for Wednesday!
