A filly you want to remember!

Now known as a very competitive 3yo filly, we look back to where it all began in late-2020 when we acquired a strong, good looking yearling out of the paddock at Spendthrift Farm.

The daughter of Overshare was a robust, well-conformed yearling filly with a good girth and strong shoulder. She gave every impression that she would be a precocious, early-running type.

Lady Laguna Yearling
Lady Laguna as a yearling after arriving at Annabel Neasham’s stable in May 2021.

She joined the stables of Annabel Neasham and kicked off her racing career successfully in November 2021 at Eagle Farm over 1000m. She repeated her winning performance in her second start at Rosehill over 1100m only two weeks later in a $130k 2yo Handicap.

In her next preparation, the filly raced most competitively, but was unlucky not to secure another win for her connections. She placed three times in Listed and Group 2 company, as well as contesting a Group 1 Golden Slipper.

Her current preparation has certainly been the most successful one to date, with seven race starts including a win in the Listed Mick Dittman Plate, as well as five further placings at Listed and Group level. Her win in the Listed Dittman Plate at Doomben finally added the all so important and deserving black-type win to the filly’s pedigree.

“She is a tough filly that just keeps on giving and she just doesn’t give me a reason not to race on. She bounces back from her races super and is just a very honest racehorse. She certainly deserves a few more wins than she has to her name, but I think she can be very successful in her future racing career.” said trainer Annabel Neasham after her last race at Doomben, where she finished a close third.

Features from Lady Laguna’s career to date.

Going into her 8th start this campaign, the filly has accepted for the 1200m Listed Queensland Day Stakes at Eagle Farm on Saturday and will jump from a wide alley with Rachel King booked to ride. Hopefully the ‘girls power’ can make an impact on Saturday.

Lady Laguna’s racing career to date has certainly been joyful for connections with her earnings coming up to almost $600k already. We hope she will continue to impress us with her performances and maybe even secure a Group win for her owners in the future.

Make sure to follow her journey!
