OTI Racing | Weekend Preview | May 6, 2022

Following a busy week with the Warrnambool Racing Carnival, we still have an exciting weekend of racing to look forward to.

We have multiple runners in various states (and countries!), with Chaillot the headline act as she bids for Group 1 success.

Eagles Crag

After multiple scratchings, Eagles Crag finally gets his chance to head back to the races. He returns a gelding and has trialled up very well in preparation for this assignment. With a great fresh record and the services of Jamie Kah on board, we’re confident of a forward showing.

Race 1 – 12:17pm | 1600m BM82 | T: Archie Alexander | J: Ms Jamie Kah 55kg | Barrier 9 | Saddlecloth 9

Eagles Crag (IRE) ridden by Ben Allen wins the Rangedale Drainage & Industrial Services BM64 Handicap at Benalla Racecourse on September 26, 2021 in Benalla, Australia. (David Thorpe/Racing Photos).

Chaillot

This mare is one who has always looked capable of being competitive at the highest level, and is certainly deserving of her chance in this event. Though the 1200m is potentially shorter than ideal, she heads into the race fresh and has shown the ability to reel off impressive sectionals.

Race 8 – 4:32pm | 1200m G1 Robert Sangster Stakes | T: Archie Alexander | J: Declan Bates 56.5kg
| Barrier 6 | Saddlecloth 9

Chaillot ridden by Declan Bates wins the BECK Probuild Testa Rossa Stakes at Ladbrokes Park Hillside Racecourse on September 25, 2021 in Springvale, Australia. (Scott Barbour/Racing Photos).

Gosford

Current Track Rating: Heavy

Holstein

This gelding bounced back to form last start when battling on gamely into 2nd after covering plenty of ground. The step to a mile suits third-up, and although its a competitive field, he’s expected to be very competitive.

Race 6 – 2:10pm | 1600m 3&4yo BM72 | T: Matthew Dunn | J: Sam Clipperton 57.5kg | Barrier 5
| Saddlecloth 9

Holstein winning at Royal Randwick in November, 2021 (Bradley Photographers).

Mirann

Following a return that was better than what it looked to the eye, Mirann is expected to take another step forward on Saturday. Though there is still improvement to come, if he can bounce and put himself amongst the first four, it wouldn’t surprise to see him finishing in the money.

Race 7 – 2:45pm | 2100m Listed Gosford Gold Cup | T: John O’Shea | J: Reece Jones 53kg | Barrier 4
| Saddlecloth 9

Mirann winning at Gowran Park in June, 2020.

Caulfield

Current Track Rating: Good

Barade

Although this fellow jumped in a better manner last time out, he didn’t quite show the closing power late that was expected. Hopefully with the step out to 2000m, a distance he’s enjoyed in the past, we can see him find some form.

Race 9 – 4:53pm | 2000m BM100 | T: Archie Alexander | J: Patrick Moloney 53kg | Barrier 16
| Saddlecloth 13

Barade (FR) ridden by Declan Bates wins the Very Special Kids Pin and Win Trophy at Flemington Racecourse on November 07, 2020 in Flemington, Australia. (Brett Holburt/Racing Photos).

Lyon Parilly (FR)

Current Track Rating: Good

Timour

Little has gone Timour’s way so far this season but he gets another chance here to show his improvement from three to four. He’s unlucky not to be a Group 2 winner already and is deserving of stakes success. A good tempo will ensure he can show his finish.

Race 5 – 10:15pm AEST | 2400m Listed Prix Bedel | T: Andre Fabre | J: Maxime Guyon 57kg | Barrier 2 | Saddlecloth 9

Timour winning at St Cloud in August, 2021.

Naas (IRE)

Current Track Rating: Good

Vina Sena

This colt is a work in progress but we know the ability is there, evidence by his ultra-impressive debut win. He needs to learn to conserve his energy, so we hope to see him relax in running before working through the line.

Race 5 – 1:00am Sunday AEST | 2000m 3yo Handicap | T: Henry de Bromhead | J: Wayne Lordan 9st 1lb | Barrier 2 | Saddlecloth 6

Vina Sena before the Ballysax Stakes (taken by Emma O’Brien).

Sunday, May 8

Ballarat

Current Track Rating: Soft

Aesop

This fellow’s return was quite good all things considered, and he’s sure to have taken great improvement from the run and trip away from home. He is a clean winded type who will enjoy the rise in trip. A winning effort would see him back up into the Andrew Ramsden Stakes.

Race 7 – 4:10pm | 2000m BM78 | T: Phillip Stokes | J: Jye McNeil 55kg | Barrier 5 | Saddlecloth 8
