Interesting Variety at Flemington Midweek

A Derby contender, a new arrival from France, a Group 2 winner from New Zealand and a last start winner – they all contribute to a most fascinating day for OTI runners at Flemington this Wednesday.

Petruchio was outstanding when winning at Sandown two weeks ago. Coming from last on the turn, he was balanced up beautifully in the straight by his young jockey Madison Lloyd before unleashing his sprint. A repeat of that effort, especially off a solid pace, will make him very competitive.

Just outside of Petruchio is the barriers will be Sous Les Nuages, a son of Holy Roman Emperor, who is now with Matt Cumani. This lightly raced 5yo gelding has pleased Matt since his arrival from André Fabre’s yard in France three months ago. While destined for longer distances, he is expected to run well.

At the top of the weights in the same race will be Hezashocka, a Group 2 winner from New Zealand who loves the wet. Purchased by the Price/Kent Stable and OTI in May, he too will relish longer journeys, however the expected wet track will feel right at home!

The major excitement of the day is likely to be centred around Inverell. This son of Shocking made his mark when winning first up at Sale with Jamie Kah aboard. With Luke Currie on top for this race, Clayton Douglas believes that he will be most competitive again and stake his claim as a serious Derby contender.

We wish the connections of all our runners the very best of luck!
