Kiwi 3YOs Set for OTI Debuts at Ellerslie

Two exciting Kiwi three-year-olds are set to make their OTI debuts in the 1400m 3YO event at Ellerslie on Saturday.

The first of those is Grocer’s Girl, a recent addition to the OTI team following three strong performances as a two-year-old. Already Stakes-placed, the daughter of Tarzino has her spring preparation centred around the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton in November.

She has trialled nicely in preparation for her return and, with the benefit of race experience behind her, we expect her to be very competitive first-up over 1400m at Ellerslie.

Grocer’s Girl ~ 2nd in Avondale trial

Joining her on Saturday will be fellow Tarzino three-year-old Mousquetaire, a big, scopey staying type who has shown plenty of promise at home for Shaun & Emma Clotworthy.

With Derby ambitions in 2027, Saturday’s 1400m will be well short of his preferred distance, but it will provide a good opportunity to further his education under race-day pressure.

Mousquetaire ~ 4th in Avondale trial

Mousquetaire also holds a special place in OTI’s New Zealand journey, having been the first horse we syndicated after gaining our NZ licence. We’re looking forward to seeing him make his debut for a passionate group of new Kiwi owners.
