Over the last 18-months, OTI has experienced great success with the offspring of New Zealand sire, Redwood. Until recently we owned four, of which three have commenced their racing career for 5 wins and 3 placings between them. Therefore it’s no surprise that we’ve added another Redwood to our stable – a 2YO gelding out of the Red Ransom-mare, Margravine – now in training with Donna Logan in NZ.
Romancer was our first acquisition. Under the patient tutelage of Donna Logan in Ruakaka, he won a Listed event at just his 3rd start.
Mighty Quinn was then purchased from NZ and imported to Matt Cumani’s stable at Ballarat, this stunning colt was most impressive on debut, finishing 2nd. Off the back of a great trial, he’ll be heading back to the races shortly where we should see the best out of him this preparation.
Night’s Watch bought on the back of some impressive trials in NZ, then went on to win his debut in style. Arriving at Darren Weir’s stable in June, he has won impressively his first two starts, most recently at Sandown on August 30. OTI do have a few ambitious nominations for him over spring. Only time will tell how ambitious these noms are.
The only daughter of Redwood we’ve acquired so far has been named Red Money and is in training with Archie Alexander. Typical of the breed, we won’t see the best of her ability until she’s matured into her 3YO year.
Donna Logan has been thrilled with the attitude and ability of the Redwood’s she has in her care. Romancer is a stable favourite and our Redwood x Margravine gelding is proving no different.
Gelded early to ensure he wouldn’t become too heavy, Donna has been patient with this lad and has allowed him plenty of time out in the paddock to slowly mature. He has now commenced his first preparation in her stable and she has been thrilled with his progress. The gelding has been ‘stamped’ by Redwood, displaying stunning looks and athleticism.
We are thrilled to add another quality Redwood in our stable. If you would like to learn more about the 2YO Redwood x Margravine gelding, please contact the office or click here.
