The impression Melbourne Cup winner Shocking has made on OTI as a stallion has been stark. Of course, there was I’m Thunderstruck (multiple G1 winner), but let’s not forget Hezashocka (G3 winner; G1 placed), Mark Twain (Listed winner; G2 placed) and Caracas (G2 placed) too. In the yearling colt out of Shanpanichi, confidence is high that we have found another most promising son of Shocking.
Phill Cataldo, OTI’s long-standing and trusted agent in New Zealand, has been instrumental in sourcing many of our successful Shocking progeny. After inspecting this colt earlier in the year, Phill was full of praise, stating “He’s got plenty of size, strength and scope to him. He’s a great shape with a fantastic front end, a bold masculine head and plenty of leg underneath him. I can see him developing into another top-class Shocking for us.”
The colt recently commenced further education with Andrew and intends to have another break across the winter. His progression through the early part of his 2-year-old season will be designed around having him ready for trial and/or race experience in the second half and having a fully educated horse ready for his spring 3-year-old racing season.
