Judging by the prices being demanded early this season for young, going horses in Europe, we’re very glad we made the effort early on to purchase horses like Warrior King. Now 3, mature and showing good ability in his work, he is ready to excel.
Having been brought along slowly and allowed to fill his big, athletic frame, trainer Harry Charlton has now taken the shackles off and has been very pleased with his progress. Typical of the Charlton stable, Warrior King’s debut was used primarily as an educational experience and we expect him to take signifcant improvement into his second start and beyond.
The gelding is by Group 1 2,000 Guineas winner Saxon Warrior, whose stud career is in its infancy. He has already produced Group 1 winner Victoria Road along with numerous other stakes winners. Warrior King is out of the New Approach mare Saadatt, who is out of a Group 1 winner and is a half-sister to a very useful performer in the OTI-owned High Bridge, who was stakes placed on multiple occasions including a 4th at Group 1 level.
At the end of this season, it is planned the gelding will move to John O’Shea and Tom Charlton at Randwick. John and Tom are continuing to feature amongst the top trainers in Sydney and have already taken out two Group 1’s in their first season together. Being Harry’s younger brother, Tom has closely followed Warrior King’s progress and looks forward to his arrival, hopefully off the back of a fruitful 3yo season.
Wholesale opportunities are available for experienced horse owners with a budget in excess of $7,500. Please contact the OTI team to learn more.
