As most people know, OTI does not buy many yearlings. With a focus on ‘going horses’, a yearling needs to be special to encourage its purchase. Such is the case with the Blue Point filly out of the Group 1-placed Roma Giaconda.

This filly has all the attributes required in a quality youngster. In addition to her looks, her pedigree, conformation and athleticism all rate at a high level. She appears a relatively early type who will be able to take advantage of both her VOBIS and Inglis Race Series incentives. Bred by a world-renowned stud, Widden, she has been given an A1 early life. With Mick Price and Michael Kent Jnr training her, she’ll get every chance to fulfill her talent.

The winner of Group 1 sprints at 2, 3, 4 and 5, Blue Point is the only horse to win 3 x Group 1 sprints at Royal Ascot. His first crop of foals produced a staggering 3 individual Group 1 winners in Europe, with multiple yearlings fetching over AUD$1m at the sales.

Now undertaking her education, the filly will have her first preparation during the winter. Her physical development will determine how quickly she progresses; however, there is every indication she will be ready for 2-year-old races after Christmas, thus opening the option for many lucrative bonus races.

Should her racing career be successful, this filly has the attributes of a most appealing broodmare. With multiple race fillies being sold each year for seven-figure sums, this additional attraction makes her a realistic commercial acquisition.
