Praecereus

Praecereus is already a three-time winner and the full brother to Group 1 winning Brambles. With wins to date over 1400m and 1600m (twice), we see Praecereus at his best over the mile journey.

Having previously experienced the larger training environments of Peter Moody and Darren Weir, we decided to move the horse to a smaller stable where he could have a more one on one tailored training, as he can be quite a fractious horse. So now it is that Matthew Smith, based at Warwick Farm, is in charge of Praecereus.

Matthew Smith spent his early days working for trainers in England and Ireland including the legendary Aidan O’Brien whom he became Assistant Trainer for two years. On his return to Australia, he was Bart Cummings foreman for five years. These excellent credentials have paid off for Matt, resulting in Group 1 success with Hurtle Myrtle. Matt is a very hands on trainer with great communication to our owners. Praecereus had one start under Matthew Smith, to ‘see where he was at’ before being put out to the paddock for a good spell. He misbehaved significantly on this outing.

The horse put on some good condition during his spell and has now commenced a few weeks of pre-training before he returns to Matt’s stable. In the right environment, we expect to see this full-brother to Brambles back in the winner’s circle in this next preparation.
