Mocking

There are a few trainers more enjoyable to race with than Johnny Murtagh. A Champion jockey initially, in a short time, he’s progressed to be one of Ireland’s top trainers. He takes his craft very seriously and makes good sense when assessing his horses, telling you bluntly that he doesn’t want slow horses in his stable.  It was fortuitous then that Johnny also loved the 2yo colt by Tamayuz at the Arqana Breeze Up Sale when we targeted him. After a month in his stable, he loves him even more, as reflected in his comments above and the following video.

With an impressive staying pedigree (out of a Teofilo mare, out of a Montjeu mare), he is a 16.1-hand, sleek, well-conformed type. He has a deep girth, short pasterns, good feet and a wide jowl – all excellent credentials for a staying type ultimately headed for Australia. He moves athletically at both the walk and canter and possesses a very efficient galloping action. He vetted well with our vet also adding the comment ‘nice colt!’.

OTI has already enjoyed good success with Johnny Murtagh. He did a wonderful job with Ottoman Emperor, winning at Group 3 level in the UK. He remains an important source of quality horses that will ultimately find their way to Australia. His passion and talent will ensure this horse gets every chance to excel. The horse’s owners will have a most enjoyable experience along the way.
