Thank Goodness We Secured Her
When the three-year-old filly Goodness (by Unusual Suspect) finished strongly in her recent trial, it was no surprise that several agents quickly showed interest. Fortunately, Phill Cataldo acted swiftly to secure her for us.
Goodness has just had the one trial up against older horses in mid-February. In that trial, she settled last before balancing up at the top of the straight and running over the top of the field to win, running away from her rivals.
At approximately the 300m mark, she accelerated sharply, quickly putting the trial beyond doubt. This turn of foot is a valuable attribute that should translate well to racing in Australia, particularly in races over middle distances and possibly beyond.
From a breeding perspective, Goodness is out of the winning Redoute’s Choice mare In The Groove. In addition to already producing a quality performer, the mare is out of A Material Girl, herself the producer of six winners and a half-sister to Champion mare Divine Madonna.
The filly’s sire, Unusual Suspect has a great strike rate of producing winners. While not a champion sire, he is highly capable of producing competitive performers over distances ranging from 1400m to 2000m. OTI has previously enjoyed success with multiple Saturday winner She’s Unusual, demonstrating the sire’s ability to produce quality fillies.
