Almorina was acquired with the guidance of trusted agent Phill Cataldo, fitting OTI’s profile perfectly. Her balance, athleticism and demeanour made her an appealing filly from the outset.
She was always expected to take time, and under the patient approach of Symon Wilde, she has developed accordingly. Having had trial experience, she has continued to improve with each preparation and now presents as a ready-to-race filly with significant upside.
The filly is by Almanzor, the sire of 30 stakes winners and 15 Group 1 performers, including OTI’s own staying stalwart Athabascan. Almorina is out of Dare To Dream, making her a half-sister to black-type performers Chase Your Dreams and Follow Your Dreams. The family also includes Regal Lion, a Group 1 performer for OTI. It is a pedigree that points clearly towards staying ability.
Wilde believes she has above-average talent and is progressing into a filly capable of targeting three-year-old staying features late in the season.
With further maturity, she profiles as a genuine middle-distance and staying mare, following a path similar to Wilde’s successful late-developing mares such as Sirileo Miss, Tralee Rose and Plenty of Ammo.
