Phillip Stokes (Pakenham)
We are thrilled to introduce Naraajo, the first foal from Araaja by Merchant Navy – a two-year-old with Phillip Stokes at Pakenham.
OTI has had a long and successful relationship with the family of Naraajo. Tom Melbourne was a cult hero and Naraajo’s dam, stakes winner Araaja, raced for OTI owners with great success. Melbourne Cup winner Fiorente is also in the family, which is testament to our faith in this exciting young colt.
In just his first preparation, Naraajo has already worked in company at Pakenham. He is progressing in the manner of a horse that will run as a two-year-old. As a result, and given his sire’s precociousness, he has been nominated for both the Golden Slipper and Blue Diamond Stakes. Phillip commented, ‘he has had a really good first preparation. He has nice length about him and he’s going to develop into a lovely horse”.
He is a son of Merchant Navy, who was unbeaten as a 2YO & a dual Group 1-winning 3YO sprinter by Fastnet Rock. After winning the G1 Coolmore on Derby Day in 2017, he went on to win at Royal Ascot.
Naraajo’s dam Araaja was a Listed winner in France and performed well in Australia. She was a quality race mare and was bound to develop into a quality broodmare. Araaja is the half-sister to Tom Melbourne. This is the family of Fiorente, winner of the Melbourne Cup and Australia Cup. He is now a stallion.
We have enjoyed a successful relationship with Phillip Stokes in recent years with horses such as Daqiansweet Junior and Amade. Both his and his breaker’s opinions of the colt’s education to date provide great confidence of racetrack success.
We look forward to watching Naraajo’s racing career progress. Should you wish to know more about this colt’s future, please don’t hesitate to contact email@example.com.
